House of Tin Baron

7 wonders of old Phuket’s ‘gilded age’ at the House of Tin Baron

In the heart of Phuket’s old town, the House of Tin Baron breathes new life into a 19th-century mansion, creating a dining destination that marries heritage with contemporary luxury.

The House of Tin Baron, Phuket’s latest venture into refined dining, opened its doors in a meticulously restored 1898 mansion in the closing month of 2024. Once home to the British Merchant Association, this Sino-Portuguese gem has been transformed into – and without a stretch – what could be described as the island’s most ambitious culinary destination.

Approach via a shimmering lotus pond that mirrors the mansion’s restored Sino-Portuguese façade. The former “Ban Nai Hua Ang Mo” building (in a fascinating mix of Thai and Hokkien that conjures up Phuket’s multilingual origins) stands as proudly now as it did in 1898.
